SHIDA SHAHABI is a Stockholm-based pianist and composer, whose stunning debut album 'Homes' drew widespread acclaim world wide. In 2023, Shahabi releases her second album, Living Circle, a carefully calibrated blend of classical and electronic elements. Combining ambient and drone techniques with traditional structures, its emotional resonance floats elusively within profoundly atmospheric, uncluttered compositions rich in textural detail and pervaded by a low-end warmth. An unusually immersive style, this provides a refuge which invites a reaction as cerebral as it is sentimental.

RYAN PACKARD is a percussionist and sound artist based in Stockholm. His solo percussion works and compositions for various ensembles can subtly or viscerally explode the minutia of timbral details that are formed between sympathetically resonating objects exposing their psychoacoustic properties. Ryan will present his composition ‘For Lying Down and Breathing’ together with Maya Bennardo and Emma Augustsson.

ISAK SUNDSTRÖM is a musician and artist from Gotland, Sweden. He lives and works in Stockholm. Isak also makes music under the name IB Sundström and in other projects, such as Rocks & Waves Song Circle and Skriet.

VICTORIA VERSEAU is a Swedish artist, musician and filmmaker working in a variety of media ranging from moving image to sculpture, installation and performance. Verseau’s artistic practice revolves around the exploration of issues of memory, identity and social structures. In her work there are points of contact with philosophy and spirituality. Her personal experiences of being a trans and new woman is often a starting point.

Together with an oil barrel orchestra and Lumen Voices, Isak Sundström and Victoria Verseau will freely interpret Stina Nordenstam's song The World Is Saved.

Oil barrel orchestras are often associated with carnivals, parties, and an almost brutal joy. In this performance, you will be immersed in the slowly growing soundscape of a sinking, low-key oil barrel orchestra at a carnival where everything has fallen asleep. The concert can be seen as a regret, a distorted prayer that the world is saved.

Lumen Project is a non-profit organization creating immersive experiences, employing sound / light / and space to inspire awe and stillness.

The format embodied by LUMEN PROJECT seeks to redefine the concert experience as something akin to a spiritual + communal happening. Lumen Project uses extended-duration unbroken sound to invite participants into a contemplative mindframe, placing our attention in the NOW. The format's trajectory bends always towards togetherness and shared experience, away from hierarchy and divisions… seeking to act as a harmonizing force.

The expansion beyond limited notions of time and song-based music, the unembarrassed injection of the spiritual into public life, the creation of a unifying space… this is our aim, and our small resistance against the dominant culture of frantic consumption and acceleration.

LUMEN PROJECT // FOERSTER & KRAMER + JOSEFIN RUNSTEEN & ANDREAZ HEDÉN

:: December 6th ::
:: 18:30 sharp ::
:: Eric Ericsonhallen ::
:: 200 SEK (plus booking fee) ::

The second in our new evening series of sound and light, featuring the organic environmental music of Berlin's FORESTER & KRAMER in their first live performance anywhere, and JOSEFIN RUNSTEEN & ANDREAZ HEDÉN who will premiere a duo set of warm meditative acoustic improvisations.

//

Berlin-based Joda Foerster and Niklas Kramer create an “acousmatic environmental ambiance”. Their first LP, entitled HABITAT, was released April 2021 on the legendary Leaving Records.

Habitat, an environmental music collaboration by Berlin based composer Niklas Kramer and percussionist Joda Foerster, is inspired by the drawings of Italian architect Ettore Sottsass. Each of the eight tracks represents a room in an imaginary building.

In Habitat the duo layers, loops and merges sonic textures and patterns into fluid blocks without the restraint of statics. African log drum, Bolivian chajchas, vibraphone, kalimba and various other percussion instruments are processed, pitched, harmonized and filtered through modular synth and script based sample cutting to form a collage of asynchronous layers.

By using acoustic instruments and expanding their sound into abstract shapes, Habitat evokes a vague intimacy, a curious state of comfort in the unknown.

-

The two musicians Josefin Runsteen (violin) and Andreaz Hedén (piano), will this evening premiere an improvised duo set. The music will be led by a hand of warm meditative acoustic improvisations, inevitably affected by the reverence the cathedral of Eric Ericssonhallen convey. Some electronic elements might appear but they will not rehearse or prepare anything before the concert in order to let the music give birth to itself.

Josefin Runsteen is a Swedish multi musician (violin, drums/percussion, vocals) composer and arranger in a wide range of genres. She has worked with artists like Ane Brun, Loney Dear, Fire! Orchestera, Mariam the Believer and in 2019 she won the Swedish National Radios award ”Jazzkatten”. Besides all collaborations she has released two solo albums: ”Thank God the Plague is Over” 2020 together with Charles Spearin (CA) and ”HANA - Three Bodies (Original Soundtrack)” 2021.

https://open.spotify.com/album/0YGLW8HC9v4efkNmlSTAO0...

Andreaz Hedén is a Swedish pianist and composer, active in the jazz, freeform, modern classical, church music, ambient and indie-pop - scene. He has recorded one jazz trio album "Who’s beautiful", and one solopiano-album "If I could top one heart from breaking" and the EP, ”Liminal Spaces”. He has composed, arranged and performed an orchestral work, "Polaric" together with the Swedish Wind Ensemble. He is also a part of the bands Modern Fantazias (Hans Ek), Serious Coffe (featuring Mike Stern and Lew Solof) and has toured with Tomas Andersson Wij and Jonathan Johansson.

Hello we are back to bring you some evenings of sound and light, starting out with sound artist and composer Sofie Birch + Cara Tolmie

---
Copenhagen based sound artist and composer Sofie Birch works primarily with synthesizers and field recordings to create ambient and melodic sound collages. Sophie uses improvisation, analogue synthesis and instrumental experiments which are carefully fused into soothing minimal soundscapes.

She began releasing solo works in 2017 through Danish label Infinite Waves. In 2019 she released the albums Planetes through German label Seil, and Island Alchemy through California-based Constellation Tatsu. In 2021, Sofie released WHISPER FOLD BRUSH. Her latest, REPAIR TECHNIQUES, is a collaboration with cellist Johan Caroe.

When performing Sofie uses her surroundings and the impulses from her audience to build one-of-a-kind live shows.

https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/optimistisk-ambient

---

Cara Tolmie works from within the intersections of performance-making, music and the moving image. Her works have been performed and exhibited widely at music festivals, art galleries, biennials and in the public space.

Her practice at large centres itself upon the voice, the body and the complex ties between the two. All at once subjective as well as socially determined, she explores voice and body as two codependent entities able to confirm as well as contradict one another. Within this there is keen attention paid to the role of listening both as a practice witnessed by the onlooker and a relationship between the performer and audience member.

Collaboration is also a key aspect of her ongoing practice both in the making of works as well as more expanded research projects. She has recently worked with Moa Franzén, Martin Gustavsson, Stine Janvin, Zoë Poluch, Kim Coleman, Will Holder, Seymour Wright, Paul Abbott in group ULAAPARC, and on artistic research projects The Glossary of the Event with Frida Sandström and Aleksei Borisionok. She also conducts 'Gender of Sound', an ongoing project with Susanna Jablonski in which they host listening events that endeavour to listen together through the frame of ‘gender’ in order to find a shared language that can accommodate multiple testimonies of listening. They have also produced a series of ‘Listening Curtains’ as part of this collaboration.

Subchamber Ensemble was established by musician, film composer and sound artist Nathan Larson, with cellist Gerda Holmquist. The ensemble involves a rotating roster of classically trained and untrained musicians. Inspired by La Monte Young’s minimalism, as well as by Alice Coltrane’s cascade-like flow of acoustic sound, performances revolve around the harp, strings, clarinet, tuned metal tank drums, electronics and cassette tape manipulations. Their self-titled debut album is available on OONA records.

This performance will feature Gerda Holmqvist, Tove Wadenius, Viktor Auregard, Olivia Rydqvist, Lydia Holmqvist, Elina Nygren, Nathan Larson, Samuel Lundström, and Ellen Pettersson

HILARY JEFFERY / JONAS NORDBERG / LIAM BYRNE / LUCY RAILTON / MATS ERLANDSSON / YAIR ELAZAR GLOTMAN

19.00 Jonas Nordberg & Liam Byrne
19.40 Yair Elazar Glotman & Mats Erlandsson present Emanate
20.30 Lucy Railton

The evening will consist of three performances - the first act will be a duo performance by Liam Byrne & Jonas Nordberg focusing on the texture and timbre of the lute and viola da gamba. The second act is the Swedish premiere of the piece Emanate by Yair Elazar Glotman & Mats Erlandsson. Lucy Railtons GRM-commisioned piece for cello, electronics and 8 channel surround sound will close the evening.

Emanate is a long-form piece written by Yair Elazar Glotman and Mats Erlandsson for electronics and a small chamber ensemble. In this iteration of the piece the performers are Liam Byrne, Hillary Jeffery and Lucy Railton. The piece is an attempt to create a durational ensemble piece that offers the listener a possibility to follow along an elongated dramatic arch thus allowing for longer stretches of musical immersion. The music unfolds in collaboration and exchange with the musicians in the ensemble, so that time and space is allowed for each of the instruments to respond to the compositional basis and expand. The work will also be presented as a vinyl record on 130701 later in the spring.

Occam's Razor by C / P / S Kungl. Konsthögskolan

LUMEN PROJECT is excited to host research platform Composing / Public / Space (C / P / S).

Occam's Razor is an atmospheric experience through time and space at Eric Ericsonhallen. Individual and collective works of sound, performance, and video are interlinked, activating different architectural aspects of the church and immerse its visitors.

C / P / S, led by artist Tarek Atoui, is a post-master course within the research programme of Kungl. Konsthögskolan/Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. The approach of C / P / S stems from Atoui’s work with music, instruments and performance. Together the group think and work around these notions and their interconnections; experimental instruments and instrument making become the starting point for creating encounters with diverse audiences and engaging with the reality and musicality of a place.

The group consists of Alan Affichard, Ami Kohara, Igor Porte, Jeremiah Runnels, Johanna Mårtensson, Julia Giertz and Rossana Mercado-Rojas, all professional practitioners from areas such as music, visual arts, art history and performing arts.

The performed situations by C / P / S will guide the audience throughout the evening and the architectural-sound space of Eric Ericssonhallen.

MARTA FORSBERG: LIGHT COLOURS FOR JYDERUP

MARTA FORSBERG: LIGHT COLOURS FOR JYDERUP

Light Colours is a light- and sound installation, originally based on sounds of violin strings. During a residency at Jyderup Højskole in Denmark late 2017, the piece took a completely new form – the loops of strings got replaced by voices of three music students from the school. Suddenly the piece got lips and lungs, creating a choir of lights.

For more about Marta's work: http://martaforsberg.com/about/

This event is FREE OF CHARGE!
Come and go as you wish - the installation is open from 10:00 to 22:00.
